Q. Who benefits from your services?
A. Your and your family. Our commitment is to provide cost effective services to all populations living in Polk and the neighboring counties, including individuals and families who are medically underserved and underinsured or uninsured.
Q. What about those people with little or no insurance who cannot afford large doctor bills?
A. We have a sliding fee scale for them. Patients who qualify for this scale have a co- pay from $5 to $20 depending on their financial situation.
Q. Does the Center just serve patients who are having a hard time making ends meet?
A. No. We serve people from all walks of life, regardless of their income. As a rural health center, however, our mandate is to provide opportunities such as our sliding fee scale to help the uninsured.
Q. Is it true that you don’t take children as patients?
A. No it’s not. We serve people of all ages; in fact one of our examination rooms is specially designed for children.
Q. Can I get my child’s immunization shots at the Center?
A. Yes, as well as flu shots for adults.
Q. Does the Center give routine physical exams?
A. Yes, as part of our well exam and preventive care program.
Q. How about physicals required by employers or other programs?
A. Yes, including Dept of Transportation, disability, and sports physicals.
Q. What about prescriptions and medications?
A. We have a program that assists individuals without insurance in obtaining medication at almost no-cost. Being a Saluda Medical Center patient is not required to participate in this program.
Q. How about emergency services?
A. We are not staffed for emergencies or urgent care. However, we do treat immediate concerns such as minor burns, insect bites or stings, sprains, asthma, and cuts requiring sutures and/or tetanus shots.
Q. Does the Center provide family planning services?
A. Yes, and we are prepared to make appropriate referrals.
Q. Do you make house calls?
A. Occasionally, but on a case-by-case basis.
Q. Is there someone on call after hours?
A. Yes, there is always a provider on call for our patients.
Q. How do I make an appointment?
A. By calling 828-749-4411 or by submitting the New Patient forms. Our receptionist will be happy to provide you with any information you need including what to bring with you to your first appointment.
